You need to keep the foot as dry as possible.  I know this is hard in the middle of your wet season and you don’t have a stable but if you use NAPPIES (yes babies Nappies)  it helps alot!!  They keep the horses foot pretty dry.  You need to strap it to your horses hoof with vet wrap or sticky strapping tap.  Remember to finish your tape under the horses foot because this will help the vet wrap to stay where it is.  The weight of your horse will keep your vet wrap down!

You need to also use some iodine spray or if you can’t afford that go to you chemist and buy a bottle of iodine (you have to dilute this) and a syringe to apply it with!!!  This is just as effective and will help to dry your horses hoof up and get rid of the infection.

Once you have cleared up your horses feet it is a good idea to put hoof oil/conditioner on his feet.  You need to keep them protected.  You don’t need to do this everyday but if you intend to hose your horse off put it on before you do this.  It will keep the water out and ensure the Health of Your horses Hoof!

My dream is to go to the Olympics for Show Jumping.  Our plan was to go and compete in the UK so we have been getting quotes to get my horse to the UK.  Jsut the other day i found out that it is going to cost us about $30 000 to get to the UK.  How crazy is that?  Who can actually afford that?  This just proves one of my points it is so unfair for the riders who don’t have a load of money, they can’t do anything.  I don’t want to wait around for a sponsor that may or may not come along but how on earth are we supposed to get $30 000 together when i have less than $20 in my bank account at the moment?!

So it is a HUGE amount of money but we are going to try and get to the UK in a year.  That’s the Dream, and we are going to try our hardest to get there.  We need to save roughly $700 a week (we don’t even earn that) to get there within a year.  We need to get my business kicking along a bit more (www.blueunicornlingerie.com), and we are looking at other ways we can earn over that a week so we can survive and save the cash.  If anyone has any ideas please contact me!!!   Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated!!!

So here we go on the Road to the UK…… it seams so far away but we’ll get there in the end!  Come back after Christmas to see how we are going and what we have decided to do!!!

Training Rex

I have just found a new way to train horses.  I’m going to use this new technique I have found which so far is making alot of sense.  I don’t know about anyone else but it is really difficult to figure out what to do when your horse does something your not expecting.  I know that my new horse is alot more difficult but also more easily offended than my other horse.

This new training system that I have found needs to shown to as many people as i can get.  I am tired of reading book after book after book without having it sink in and not feel like a long term solution.  I have found an easy and fast way to train.  I will be documenting my success on my blog so every one can see how well it works!

Training At Home

His First competition…. it was interesting to say the least.  We left at 5am to get there in time.  We only got lost once… which was impressive as this place was in the middle of no-where!  He was brilliant in the float it was lovely to have a horse that floats really well as my last horse had an accident once and was completly usless in the float! 

I tacked him up and my nerves where ridiculously bad, i felt sick and weak and light headed.  I need to work on those i think!  So anyways, He was good when i was tacking him up, he just stood there like a sweet innocent little child.  Much to my dismay, once i went into the practice round…. he was completly the opposite.  He played on my nerves and was so seriously naughty, he’d never been that naughty not even when i first got him.  I was really upset by the end of the practice round, I wasn’t even sure if  there was much point in taking him in the REAL round.

The time came for the real round, he was really wobbly to all the fences but i rode him really hard and tried to be as defensive as possible as i have now found out he has a really dirty stop in him…. you know the kind where you go flat out to the jump and litterally 2 strides out he slide halts to the base of the jump and sticks his neck down and you most of the time go flying over his head.  Yep one of those stops.  I was really happy because he only had one stop at the last fence which was a water jump with a HUGE big blue mat underneath it…. aparantly the horses were surposed to step on it but my horse being the clown that he is didn’t want to go near it, not even jump the whole thing but he did second go. 

I was happy with the round as he’d never seen those jumps before.  But I am really un happy about how much his bad behavior un-did my confidence.  If any one has any tips on how to over come your nerves.  I can see this being our down fall.  I need to get confident agian, I have lost my “grrr’ somewhere along the lines.  I’m not sure when.  I love this horse and he is amazing but if he can upset me so much that i can’t ride then i shouldn’t have such a talented horse.  I know i can ride him, but my nerves cripple me.  Any Thoughts?  I would love some feed back!
